As per the Delhi Liquor License Rules, 1976, following are the types of liquors that are assigned different kinds of licenses. The rules have been put forth to ensure that the following types of alcoholic beverages as stored, served and secure as per the rules of the government – with no contravention whatsoever.

  1. Indian Made Foreign Liquor
  2. Country Liquor
  3. Denatured & Special Denatured Spirit
  4. Wholesale licensee for Indian Made Foreign Liquor
  5. Rectified Spirit

Based on it, following are the different types of Liquor Licenses in India:

  1. L-1 License: L1 License is wholesale liquor license granted to entities that have their own distillery/breweries/manufacturing plants
  2. L-6 License: L-6 License is issued to those desiring to retail in foreign alcoholic beverages
  3. L-9 License: This License is for the retail of various brands of Indian and foreign liquor. Previously called L-52, this license is only issued if the applicant abides to all the terms of the competent authorities.
  4. L-10 License: This license is for sale or various brands of Indian and foreign liquor.
  5. P-10 License: This license is issued temporarily to serve liquor in parties, functions and conferences.
  6. L-15 License: This license is issued to star hotels approved by the government of India to accommodate foreign tourists.
  7. L-17 License: They are also issued to star hotels. However, they should be located in commercial area with an adequate parking space.
  8. L-28 License: These licenses are issued to clubs with registration in Registrar of firms or Registrar of corporate societies
  9. L-29 License: These licenses are issued for the clubs and messes that provide liquor or beer exclusively to government servants.

Documents Required for Liquor-License

Following are the liquor license documents required to start a store in India:

  1. Photo ID of the applicant
  2. ID proof of the applicant
  3. Address proof of the applicant
  4. Possession proof of the shop
  5. Layout plan of the shop
  6. NOC from the state fire department
  7. Duly filled application form
  8. Latest copy of ITR filing
  9. Affidavit stating that there is no criminal case against the applicant
